Scientifically known as Hibiscus syriacus, rose of sharon tree comes from the family Malvaceae and is commonly used as a garden accent for its colorful, cup shaped flowers. The flowers of this small tree usually remain open during the daylight and close at the night.

The height of this tree varies from 8 - 10 feet and has a width ranging from 4 - 10 feet. The branches of this deciduous tree grow upright and doesn't droop until it blooms. The foliage emerges late in spring and are usually medium to dark green in color. The roots of the tree are located just below the soil surface. Moist and well drained soil with medium to full sunlight work extremely well for the tree. In fact, the shrubs of the tree are tolerant to different soil textures, moisture conditions and acid to alkaline pH, if kept under full or nearly full sunlight.
