Description
There is a beautiful legend connected with this Spring, of a lovely Indian maiden, daughter of celebrated Chief Kenosha -
was in the habit of going to the Spring to bathe her feet, and the very morning of the nuptials were be be celebrated it was
discovered that her feet had turned to stone. A medicine man was called, who decided that she must be put to death, as
an evil spirit had taken possession of her. Her lover, asked the privilege of being sacrificed with her and were both buried
at the end of this Spring. It is believed that on any pleasant summer evening, you can hear the splashing of the maidens
feet in the water. It was in honor of this noble transaction on the part of the brave young chief, that the village of Southport
changed its name to Kenosha.
