Berries come in many shapes and sizes, but they are all healthy sources of fiber, potassium and vitamin C. Strawberries, blueberries and blackberries are low in fat and calories, and contain compounds that might protect you from certain health conditions. Choose brightly colored berries and eat them within a day or so to reap as many of these benefits as possible.
The average diet falls short on fiber, of which you should aim to eat between 20 to 35 grams each day. Fiber is crucial for the function of your digestive system and can prevent hemorrhoids and constipation. Regular intake of fiber might cut your risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer. A 1-cup serving of strawberries supplies 3.3 grams of fiber. The same amount of blueberries contains 3.6 grams, and a 1-cup serving of blackberries provides 7.6 grams.
