Description
Photograph was taken in a local Kenosha Wisconsin, historical mansion.
Would make a wonderful Christmas card, with a great vintage look!
This restored and furnished Victorian mansion is the former home of Charles Durkee, Wisconsin's Civil War era senator.
The cream brick Italianate, Victorian style home is located on the lakefront. Elegantly redecorated in the 1860s period, this home built for Charles Durkee features the largest suspension stairway in the state, as well as unique fireplaces in the 2nd floor bedrooms, parquet floors and louvered windows.
Durkee was a very influential pioneer, businessman, politician and patron of the arts. The mansion is a monument to his dedication to improving life, liberties and education. In fact, after his death, it became housing for students of an all girls school. Free admission; donations are welcome.
